home goods goodies

tuesdays are my photography classes :)
after class i have a few hours before i pick my boys up from school.
 i usually go get some lunch {a brc burrito from el pollo loco, my favorite}
and then i stop by Home Goods and TJ Maxx that are conveniently next to each other.

here are some of the goodies i have acquired lately.

mr. owl, isn't he cute? i just loved the color, perfect for my laundry room.

this wire market basket, it was the only one there. it now holds my towels in the laundry room.

and this sign

this chicken and the sign were a gift from my sister from home goods.

i absolutely loved this cup with the sweet birdie to hold my jewelry.

as i am looking at all these pictures i realize there is a lot of blue and animal going on
hmm, is that my new trend?

i think i better not make it habit of going to home goods every tuesday.
i may go broke.

but it sure feels good to score a few nice things for the house.

where is your favorite place to shop?

evolution of a laundry room

welcome to our new {old} laundry room

our laundry room is located outside our house in a separate room
kinda like a bonus room, a very spacious one.

this is what the room looked like before if you remember from this post

 wah la {picture me waving a little wand around}
this is how it looks like now

our laundry room is finally complete, at least the laundry side of this room.

it is a complete change from this yucky flooring
{kinda embarrassed to show this picture, but gotta keep it real}

new clean floors are soo nice
goodbye blue walls

hello new paint, new washer and dryer, and check out that new light fixture that hubby
fitted with a spray painted medallion to make it beefier, it was a little wimpy.

new cabinet hubby made, a sink and faucet from ikea were perfect for this utility sink.
detergent looks a lot prettier in a glass container.

my nanita gave me the little washboard.

hubby also made this shelf to cover pipes that were protruding from the wall.
i painted it and gave it a light sanding to look a bit distressed.
i made curtains for the utility sink to hide all the laundry necessities that are not so pretty.

i really liked the way the light fixture looks in this room.

eventually, on the other side of the room, i want to make it my sewing/craft area.
i bought an old desk at the goodwill that i want to refiinsh and paint to add.

for now i have beautiful clean place where i can air my dirty laundry.
thanks for stopping by.

sewing and some thoughts

after being off on winter break for about a month, i went back to work today.
i enjoy my time off and being at home working on projects, cleaning, and cooking.
i love being able to stay home part time, it was what i was hoping and praying for.
is it bad if i say i did not miss work?

i was dreading going back, and the thought of planning did me in yesterday.
but today as i walking to my classroom, some of my students saw me and yelled
"Mrs. Nunez, we missed you" and gave me big hugs.
that put a big smile on my face and made me realize, this is not so bad.
kids will love you unconditionally if you show them love, respect {and teach them a few things}.
that was God's way of showing me that this is important to him
and to those kids who in such a short time have grown to love me and me them.
anyways, this post is about sewing, don't worry i won't ramble much about work.

i mustered up the courage to finally use my new sewing machine.
i bought this last year...can't even remember the month.

one of my new years resolutions was to use my sewing machine. i was determined.

i made curtains for the laundry room sink.

they weren't that hard to make. after all it was just a straight stitch.
i found sewing to be relaxing.
i am happy with the end result.
this is the sink cabinet that hubby made. love it!
the curtains hide the not so pretty laundry stuff.

tomorrow i am off again, i tell you, i shouldn't be complaining.
i plan on posting before and after pictures of the laundry room soon.

thanks for stopping by!

laundry room progress

our laundry room project is moving along
so far we have:
painted the walls
installed flooring and baseboards
hubby made a cover for the ugly water heater
installed a new light fixture
new blinds for the door and windows
new washer and dryer were installed.

hubby made this island for me before we had remodeled our kitchen.

I love it but since the kitchen remodel, it has been living in the garage serving as storage.
I decided to paint it and put it in the laundry room for now. I am loving the new color.
I will probably distress it later but I am not sure yet.

yesterday we went to Ikea and purchased a sink and fixture.

hubby is working on making the cabinet for the sink.

he is also building a shelf for the wall to cover the pipes protruding from the wall.

I cant believe the difference from the old LR

hubby has been clocking in some long hours on this project.
i love it already and i was able to take the machines for their maiden run yesterday.
funny, who gets this happy to do laundry?
I just hate having piles of clothes everywhere.
so now i have piles to fold and put away, not so much fun.

thanks for stopping by!

laundry room progress

we have been making progress on the laundry room

here is a before picture, not pretty
this room was a catch all for things that either didn't fit in our house or didn't go
hence the vinyl action figure display case, sorry honey!

i guess it was stuck in the 80's
{even though we purchased in 1999}

washer and dryer were purchased and are due to be installed on wednesday.

horrendous flooring soon to be gone, it is amazing the damage sunlight does

walls were painted and as we speak{or rather I type} hubby is installing new flooring.

i really like the color,

it feels a whole lot cleaner, like a laundry room should feel.

we are going to install this fixture from Lowe's

Zoomed: allen + roth 10-1/2" Bronze Ceiling Semi-Flush Mount

i looks a bit vintage and is not too expensive

it's pretty exciting to see it all come together,
thanks to my awesome hubby who loves to work

and makes my dreams come true,
he's a keeper!

he is too, always wanting to be in the mix.

lovely laundry

after many years of cleaning service, our washing machine broke
it was one of our first purchases when we first got married and purchased our little home.
i had told the hubby that i thought it was on it's last straw
and this week, after throwing in my son's blanket and sheets to wash it did her in

so now we are purchasing a new washer and dryer and we will be remodeling the laundry room. we had planned on doing it this summer when hubby is off

i will spare you pictures of our laundry room now
seriously it's awful not to mention super dirty
i guess it will make for a better before and after picture
when we complete our project

i had already started my lovely laundry pinboard on pinterest for our future project

here are some of my favorites

Pinned Image

i love the colors on the counter, i want hubby to build a counter like this one

Pinned Image

we will be installing flooring like this
we found some vinyl flooring that looks like wood
perfect for the laundry room which also doubles as a workout room
{more like storage for machines that never get used}

i like the functionality of this one and the colors

Pinned Image

we are looking at purchasing a front loading washer and dryer
i have heard good and bad things about frontloading machines

hubby likes to do his research and decided we should go with an LG
i originally wanted silver but they cost $500 more!
 just for color....white will do.

Pinned Image

these are just lovely rooms i pinned
we will be painting the walls a similiar color

Pinned Image

i like the wood countertop, the skirt, and did you notice the light fixture?
wonder if that could fit our budget?
getting ideas and looking for inspiration is probably the most enjoyable aspect of a remodel project
i am excited, i will be taking pictures of the project to share with you

how about you? are you planning a project for the new year?

images via pinterest, click on the images to read more about the remodel
